The Annoying Truth About Holiday Weight Gain

This article is legit. But this line is so upsetting:  “In [Professor Jennifer Kuk’s] recent study, she and her team found that even if a person in today’s age exercised and ate the same amount as a person in 1988, they’d still be heavier.”

What are all those chemicals and other things doing to us? How are they able to alter our metabolism?

Food for thought.

The Annoying Truth About Holiday Weight Gain

Today’s OOTD

I was inspired by @runrunningrunner ‘s post about his OOTD and honestly? I felt cute today and wanted to share that with you all! 😉

I have several blanket scarves and as the weather has gotten colder I broke them out. Most of the time I feel like I don’t know how to drape them, but I feel like I nailed it today!

In other news, I have a busy evening ahead; I’ve got a massage after work (past Melissa was SO SMART for scheduling this!) and then after that, I’m going to a paint and sip event with a friend. I generally dread being out all night on a “school night” but I enjoy doing seasonal activities so I’m sucking it up and going out. I did not drag my butt out of bed this morning to run so I either have to do it after my massage (not a good idea) or just miss two days in a row since I didn’t do it yesterday either. I’m struggling to get up and run before work and sometimes running after work doesn’t happen due to plans. Get it together, Melissa!!

Do you guys remember that I was supposed to see Justin Timberlake in October, but he had to cancel due to his bruised vocal chords? Well, he is rescheduling his rescheduled date for my concert in two weeks. My friend that I was supposed to go with and I decided to just get our money back. After all this drama, I’m kinda glad we did. Plus, the extra cash coming back is a blessing!

Have a good one, cats!

asked: Pass the happy! 🌻🌈 When you receive this list 5 things that make you happy and send this to 10 of the last people in your notifications

  1. Warm weather and sunshine
  2. Laying under the Christmas tree with my oldest nephew (it’s our tradition!)
  3. Finding a great new book that I just can’t put down
  4. Baking for others
  5. Spending time with my family and friends–Only 17 days until I go home for Christmas!

It’s a Marshmellow World!

  • It started snowing here Tuesday morning and save for a few brief respites, it hasn’t stopped since. It’s a wet, heavy snow and the trees are bending with the weight. It’s quite beautiful, though I am sure I will be over this weather once January hits. The dogs love rolling around and playing in it too.
  • My boo is out of town for training this week so it’s me and pups. Last night I spooned Rio all night long. It was actually a really good night’s sleep! Love that sweet girl.
  • I got to play with a golden retriever puppy yesterday. Lola was being babysat by my colleague’s student worker and she brought her with her to their meeting. I immediately stole her and got puppy kisses. It was THE BEST. My university is pretty dog-friendly–there are a lot of service dogs that go here and I see at least 1-2 dogs walk by my office every day. My goal is to one day bring my dog(s) to work with me, though perhaps only one at a time! Rio would go on adventures wanting to get petted, while Charlie would scrounge for food. But they’d make the day so GREAT, it would be worth it!
  • As of today, I have officially paid off 2/3 of my car! Only 20 more payments to go! Feels good.
  • I only have a few presents left to buy. My BFF’s birthday is the 5th and I ordered and sent her presents yesterday, and my mom’s birthday is the 14th and I mailed her package this morning! I am still trying to figure out what to get for my fiance and my dad. Guys are so hard to buy for!
  • Speaking of my boo, I had that amazing board made for him for his retirement next week from the Army. He LOVED it! His good friend and fellow soldier has a woodworking business and he and I designed that together.
  • I know I’m getting old and cranky because things that I used to do as a child that would get me yelled at by my dad are now starting to irritate me. For example, I become ENRAGED when students walk by my office (I’m in a very heavy traffic area) and drag their feet! My dad used to yell at me to “pick up your feet!” when I’d shuffle by. I always thought he was being a little dramatic, but now when people walk by in their boots that they don’t want to tie and drag their feet on the ground I want to yell the same thing at them! My dad just shakes his head and laughs at me. I guess that’s karma.
